About
TJ-STEEL |
TJ-History
TJ-Steel was established in June 1998 by Tony Bell who had 30
years industry experience and John Maisey who is the owner and Managing
Director of Forlong and Maisey, both John and Tony identified a need to
offer lower priced product to end users within New Zealand by utilising the
contacts that John had established through his businesses in Asia.
After discussions with some
distributors it was decided that TJ-Steel would act as a broker of steel
products out of Asia for these companies, however following changes in the
attitude of a major distributor a decision was made to stock Hot Rolled
Sheet from Thailand that was of good quality for resale, this saw TJ-Steel
enter as a very small merchant offering steel to customers within the New
Zealand market.
From this point which was mid 1998,
TJ-Steel has grown swiftly, even through the Asian crisis which saw the NZ
dollar plummet to an all time low of 0.39 against the US Dollar which
happened January 2000. Five shifts of premises occurred during 1998 to 2002
to where we are now located in Te Rapa, Hamilton.
Our success has been driven by
being innovative, identifying niche areas and having a passion within our
makeup to provide total customer service. This philosophy has led us to
obtain some very good agencies which continue to offer benefits to our
customers.
Our success has been created by
keeping things Simple, provide Excellent service and at all
times showing Common Sense.
We can now boast a very large
customer base, a wide range of steel and associated products and a
passionate, fun loving team of people all striving in giving the customers
what they need.
